Welcome to the very first episode of the Rev Up Sales Podcast. In this show, we are going to cover a lot of things like B2B sales, leadership, sales process, sales tactics, the mental aspects of selling, among many other things. 

All that will come up in future episodes, including some amazing guests, but by now we want to talk with you about sales as a profession.   

What's it all about? What's going wrong in sales as a profession? What do we think of the opportunity areas?  

Today, we will also go through what's good about selling as a profession and what are the rewards for getting into it. Both of us fell into sales, we didn’t dream of being in sales when we were kids but, do we regret it? Absolutely not! We fell in love with it. 

So, let’s start with the problems. What is wrong with sales? Short answer, many things, but let’s be more specific. 

For instance, if you've got a team of three salespeople, and two of them are underperforming that's not ideal. I think we can agree there is a massive lack of consistency in selling and we think part of that is because the world of sales is like the Wild West, there's no standard.  

Reviewing why you lost a sale is essential if you don’t want it to keep happening, but evaluating wins is also important to get to discriminate what worked from what didn’t.

There are a lot of elements around this no standard issue that often pass inadvertently but they definitely must be taken into consideration when you make a living out of sales. 

A lot of companies aren't investing in developing their salespeople's selling ability, they'll teach them the product, but they won't teach them how to sell.  

More so now, there's a lot of companies, especially tech companies who have investments and they're looking to grow quickly. That's great! It is exciting, but they've got to put the time and attention into making sure they're getting the right people and making sure they train them properly, otherwise, what’s the point? 

But don’t be discouraged because there are a lot of great rewards for being in sales. We really want to share our experience hoping it will have a great impact on you and your perception of sales.
